Queens Public Library is hosting a comprehensive health fair titled “To Live Healthy and Wise” at the Central Library in Jamaica on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 10 AM to 3 PM. This event aims to provide valuable health information and resources to the community through a series of presentations, workshops, and on-site services.
The health fair will feature presentations from prominent healthcare organizations. New York Presbyterian will discuss cancer awareness, focusing on breast, cervical, and colon cancer screening guidelines. Planned Parenthood will conduct a workshop on sexually transmitted infections, covering risk reduction and testing procedures. The New York State Department of Health will provide an overview of NY State of Health programs and the Essential Plan’s DACA expansion.
In addition to the presentations, a mobile health unit will be available for HIV and Hepatitis C rapid testing. The main lobby will host a tabling event where attendees can interact with representatives from various health organizations, including the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, Alzheimer’s Association, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s Immigrant Health and Cancer Disparities Center.
Participants can expect to receive educational materials on healthcare support, mental health services, and other health-related topics. The event will also feature giveaways, including first aid kits, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
“First aid kits as well as other giveaways will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis,” said the library.
This health fair presents an excellent opportunity for Queens residents to access important health information, free screenings, and connect with local health agencies, all under one roof at the Central Library.
