Donor Transparency Policy
We are committed to transparency in every aspect of funding our organization.
Accepting financial support does not mean we endorse donors or their products, services or opinions.
We accept gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals, organizations and foundations to help with our general operations, coverage of specific topics and special projects. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that operates as a public trust, we do not pay certain taxes. We may receive funds from standard government programs offered to nonprofits or similar businesses.
Our news judgments are made independently – not based on or influenced by donors or any revenue source. We do not give supporters the rights to assign, review or edit content.
We make public all revenue sources and donors who give $5,000 or more per year. As a news nonprofit, we avoid accepting charitable donations from anonymous sources, government entities, political parties, elected officials or candidates seeking public office. We will not accept donations from sources who, deemed by our board of directors, present a conflict of interest with our work or compromise our independence.
Editorial Independence Policy
We subscribe to standards of editorial independence adopted by the Institute for Nonprofit News:
Our organization retains full authority over editorial content to protect the best journalistic and business interests of our organization. We maintain a firewall between news coverage decisions and sources of all revenue. Acceptance of financial support does not constitute implied or actual endorsement of donors or their products, services or opinions.
We accept gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals and organizations for the general support of our activities, but our news judgments are made independently and not on the basis of donor support.
Our organization may consider donations to support the coverage of particular topics, but our organization maintains editorial control of the coverage. We will cede no right of review or influence of editorial content, nor of unauthorized distribution of editorial content.
Our organization will make public all donors who give a total of $5,000 or more per year. We will accept anonymous donations for general support only if it is clear that sufficient safeguards have been put into place that the expenditure of that donation is made independently by our organization and in compliance with INN’s Membership Standards.
Code of Ethics
We subscribe to the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics:
Seek Truth and Report It: Ethical journalism should be accurate and fair. Journalists should be honest and courageous in gathering, reporting, and interpreting information.
Minimize Harm: Ethical journalism treats sources, subjects, colleagues, and members of the public as human beings deserving of respect.
Act Independently: The highest and primary obligation of ethical journalism is to serve the public.
Be Accountable and Transparent: Ethical journalism means taking responsibility for one’s work and explaining one’s decisions to the public.
Correction Policy
NepYork is committed to delivering accurate, timely, and comprehensive news. We strive to swiftly address errors in content published on our digital platforms.
When issuing a correction or clarification, our aim is to transparently and promptly inform readers about what was incorrect and provide the accurate information in a way that is easy to understand. We view our journalism as an evolving process, continuously refined to meet the expectations of a digital audience.
Routine updates to stories do not require a specific note unless significant new information or changes warrant it; timestamps indicate that a story is developing. However, significant errors must be addressed with a correction or clarification.
For substantive corrections to articles, photo captions, headlines, graphics, videos, or other materials, we will promptly publish a correction detailing the change. If our journalism is factually accurate but lacks clarity or sufficient detail, we will revise the language and append a clarification.
In cases where a correction undermines the core of an article, raises serious ethical concerns, or indicates a failure to meet our standards, an editor’s note may be required, accompanied by an explanation of the issue.
If a subject alleges inaccuracy, we will investigate and, if needed, issue a correction. Fairness may also prompt updates or follow-up coverage—such as reporting the dismissal of charges after covering an initial accusation—rather than deleting the original piece. Exceptions to this policy are considered only when publicly available personal data in our content puts an individual at risk of physical harm, in which case we will review the request.
We welcome complaints about errors of fact. You may contact us at info@nepyork.com.
