To be eligible, applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and meet one of the following requirements: 15 college credits, prior U.S. military service with an honorable discharge, or 6 months of relevant full-time work experience. Age restrictions are also in place. Applicants must be at least 17 ½ years old by the application deadline and under 29 years old when applications opened. They must also be 21 by their appointment date.
A valid New York State driver’s license is required at the time of appointment. Residency in NYC or surrounding counties is a must, and U.S. citizenship is mandatory by the appointment date. Candidates will also undergo medical, psychological, and drug screening tests, along with a background check to ensure good character.
