$256 Million Powerball Jackpot Won in New York

A lucky New Yorker is waking up a multi-millionaire after winning Saturday night’s Powerball jackpot. A single ticket sold in the state matched all six numbers drawn, claiming the $256 million prize. The winning ticket was purchased at Hua Lian Supermarket on Parsons Boulevard in Flushing, Queens.

This marks the first Powerball jackpot won in New York since 2020. Across the country, 568,978 tickets won prizes in the same drawing, including 12 that earned $50,000 by matching four white balls and the Powerball. Six of those winners doubled their prize to $100,000 by adding the Power Play feature for an extra $1.

The winning numbers drawn on Saturday, December 7th were 1, 31, 43, 55, 57, with a red Powerball of 22.

The lucky ticket holder has the option of receiving the prize as an annuity of $256 million paid out over 29 years, or a lump-sum payment of approximately $123.5 million.

This year’s nine Powerball jackpots have been won in nine different states, matching the record for the most jackpots won in a single year, previously set in 2018.

Michigan kicked off the year with an $842.4 million win on January 1, followed by Oregon’s staggering $1.326 billion jackpot on April 6. Florida claimed $214.9 million on May 6, while New Jersey won $226.6 million on June 10.

Ohio secured $139.3 million on July 3, and Pennsylvania followed with $213.8 million on August 12. California celebrated a $44.3 million win on August 19, Georgia took home $478.2 million on October 23, and New York rounded out the year with $256 million on December 7.

Since its inception, Powerball has contributed more than $32 billion to support good causes across the United States. Over half of all ticket sale proceeds remain in the jurisdiction where the ticket is sold. Tickets are $2 per play and are available in 45 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Powerball drawings occur every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET and are broadcast live from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee.
