A Nepali Uber driver in New York City has finally reached a settlement of $1.4 million after an eight-and-a-half-year legal battle stemming from a 2015 accident. The driver, injured when his car was hit by an airline shuttle bus near JFK Airport, was unable to work due to his injuries.
The legal journey began with a lawsuit filed against the bus company, which initially denied responsibility for the accident. Facing a potential trial, the bus company ultimately agreed to settle, offering $1.4 million in compensation.
Lawyer Durga Bhurtel, who represented the Uber driver throughout the case, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, highlighting the relief it brings to his client. Bhurtel has a proven track record of success in personal injury cases, having secured significant settlements for other Nepali clients in the past.
Notably, he achieved a remarkable $2.8 million settlement for a Nepali construction worker injured on the job, secured $450,000 for a man struck by a FedEx truck in Brooklyn, obtained $400,000 in compensation for a Nepali individual injured in Queens when a sidewalk collapsed, and last year, secured $1.275 million compensation for a Nepali laundry worker injured by an apartment door.
