The Sarlahi District Court in Nepal has sentenced Ram Bahadur Bamjan, known as ‘Buddha Boy’, to 10 years in prison and imposed a monetary fine for his involvement in sexual misconduct with minor.
Judge Jeevan Kumar Bhandari issued the verdict, which includes a 10-year prison term and a $3,700 compensation to the victim. This decision follows last Monday’s confirmation of Bamjan’s sexual offenses, and the official announcement was made today.
The victim’s family filed a formal complaint at the Malangwa District Police Office on February 6, 2020. They accused Bamjan, a 33-year-old from Nijgadh Municipality-12, Bara District, of sexually exploiting a girl at an ashram in Patharkot, Lalbandi Municipality, Sarlahi.
Bamjan was subsequently detained at his residence in Budhanilkanth Municipality-6, Kathmandu, by the CIB team on January 9, 2024. During his arrest, police seized Nepalese banknotes worth $227,000 and other foreign currencies totaling $23,000.
He has been held at Mahottari District Jail in Jaleshwar since January 11, 2024. Bamjan has 70 days to appeal the court’s decision.
Bamjan is also facing additional accusations, including murder, causing disappearances, and sexual assault of ashram residents. Complaints from five families allege that three young women and two young men from the ashram are missing.
