On October 25, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in Nepal’s Mustang district, involving the death of 63-year-old US tourist Milo Golsegar. The event unfolded in Thangsar, located within the Thasang Rural Municipality-2 area.
Golsegar was discovered unconscious in his room at the Holiday Camp Hotel. Upon finding him in this state, immediate action was taken to provide medical assistance. He was swiftly transported to Jomsom Hospital for emergency treatment.
Unfortunately, despite the rapid response, medical professionals at Jomsom Hospital were unable to save Golsegar’s life. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the medical facility.
The District Police Office has confirmed the incident and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Golsegar’s death. Deputy Superintendent of Police Surya Bahadur Bogati is overseeing the case.
Initial reports suggest that Golsegar may have died due to suffocation. The investigation is focusing on the possibility that the use of a hot water geyser in his hotel room might have been a contributing factor to the incident.
As part of the ongoing investigation, Golsegar’s body has been placed in Jomsom Hospital for an autopsy. This procedure will help determine the exact cause of death and provide crucial information for the authorities to conclude their inquiry.
This incident occurred alongside another tragic event in the same region. An Indian pilgrim, identified as Sharda Mahadev Lagade, aged 69, also lost her life, possibly due to high-altitude sickness.
These incidents highlight the potential risks associated with travel in high-altitude areas and underscore the importance of proper acclimatization and safety measures for tourists visiting such regions.
