The event featuring Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, planned to engage with the Nepali community in New York, has been canceled due to security concerns. The event was scheduled for Sunday, September 22, at 5:30 PM at Gulshan Terrace in Woodside, New York. It was organized by the Consulate General of Nepal in New York in collaboration with several Nepali community organizations in the United States.
Prime Minister Oli and Foreign Minister Deuba are in New York for the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to officials from the Consulate General, the event was canceled following advisories from local and Nepali security teams, citing potential security threats. Details regarding these threats have not been disclosed.
The cancellation has left many in the Nepali community disappointed, as the event was seen as an opportunity to discuss various issues directly with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. Despite the cancellation, both leaders will continue with their scheduled engagements at the UN General Assembly and other meetings in New York.
