Embassy of Nepal in Washington, D.C. Coordinates Successful Rescue of 3 Stranded Nepali Women

In a collaborative effort between the Embassy of Nepal and the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, a triumphant rescue mission was executed to bring back three stranded Nepali nationals: Ms. Sersang Tamang, Ms. Tirtha Lama Waiba, and Ms. Yangjen Sherpa. These individuals had found themselves marooned in Trinidad and Tobago for over a month due to the unforeseen cancellation of their return flight to Nepal upon their arrival in the Caribbean nation.

Ms. Tamang, the first of the trio, successfully departed from Trinidad and Tobago on August 21, 2023, and is anticipated to touch down in Kathmandu on August 23, 2023. The remaining two, Ms. Waiba and Ms. Sherpa, have their departure scheduled for August 24, 2023, with an anticipated arrival in Kathmandu on August 26, 2023. Their prolonged stay at the Piarco International Airport had led to complications in their immigration status, further emphasizing the urgency of their rescue.

Expressing profound gratitude, the Embassy of Nepal conveyed their appreciation to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago for their unwavering cooperation throughout the entire rescue process. Their collaborative efforts were instrumental in ensuring the safe return of the stranded Nepali nationals. Additionally, the Embassy extended their thanks to Mr. Tej Bahadur Lama, who played a pivotal role in communicating the situation of the stranded individuals to the Embassy.

The Embassy of Nepal took the opportunity to issue a word of caution to Nepali nationals intending to travel to Caribbean countries for various purposes, including tourism. They advised travelers to meticulously align the purpose of their visit with the corresponding visa category that they have been issued. This cautionary advice aims to prevent future instances of individuals being stranded due to discrepancies between their travel intentions and visa specifications.

As the rescued Nepali nationals prepare to make their journey home, the collaborative success between the Embassy of Nepal and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago stands as a testament to the enduring bond between nations and their commitment to safeguarding the welfare of their citizens abroad.
