From the quiet town of Sundarbazar in Nepal’s Lamjung district to the competitive business landscape of New York City, CPA Pashupati Shrestha’s journey reflects persistence, academic excellence and professional discipline.

Shrestha, who consistently ranked first in his class through grade 10 at the prestigious Budhanilkantha School in Nepal, continued to demonstrate academic distinction after moving to the United States. As a first-generation student, he earned a full scholarship to study mathematical economics at a leading U.S. institution before completing a master’s degree in accounting, laying a strong foundation for his professional career.

“Coming to the United States as a first-generation student from Nepal, I had nothing but dreams and hard work,” Shrestha said. “Receiving a full scholarship was a major opportunity, but earning a degree alone was not enough. I had to work day and night to prove myself in a highly competitive environment.”

He said his academic training, particularly his deep understanding of accounting and tax systems, played a crucial role in shaping his career path.

Shrestha began his professional journey at globally recognized auditing firms, working as an auditor in New York City. Over more than a decade, he gained experience serving multinational corporations and financial institutions, where he developed expertise in financial transparency and global business operations.

“Working with large organizations allowed me to closely observe the importance of financial integrity and operational discipline,” he said. “The professional rigor and technical knowledge I gained there inspired me to establish my own firm.”

Shrestha is now the founder and chief executive officer of a New York-based accounting and tax consulting firm that serves small businesses and individual taxpayers. His firm focuses on tax-saving strategies and financial advisory services, particularly for entrepreneurs navigating complex regulatory systems.

“Running a business in New York is challenging,” he said. “My goal has always been to help small business owners legally minimize their tax burden and protect their businesses. I wanted to build not just an office, but a reliable financial partner for the Nepali community.”

Beyond accounting, Shrestha has expanded into the hospitality and entertainment sectors, contributing to the operation and management of businesses such as Lakeside Restaurant and Buddha Bar. He views these ventures as both business opportunities and platforms for cultural connection.

“The restaurant business is not just about food; it is about management and community engagement,” he said. “Through these establishments, we have tried to introduce Nepali hospitality to both local and international customers while maintaining financial discipline and quality.”

Addressing questions about his diversified career, Shrestha emphasized that financial management remains central to any successful business.

“Some may wonder how an accountant can succeed in hospitality,” he said. “But the backbone of any business is sound financial management and legal awareness. Applying my accounting expertise helped these ventures establish a strong identity in New York within a short time.”

In addition to his business activities, Shrestha remains actively engaged in community service. He participates in various Nepali community initiatives in New York and contributes to alumni networks from his school in Nepal.

Reflecting on his role in the community, he said he is committed to helping others succeed.

“Many in our community are pursuing big dreams through small businesses,” he said. “If my knowledge can help someone avoid financial loss or unnecessary penalties, that is the true meaning of my success.”

Shrestha also encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to take informed risks and respect legal frameworks.

“The United States is full of opportunities, but one must identify the right path,” he said. “Do not fear taking risks, but base them on facts and data. Respect the rules and regulations, and success will follow.”
