The Greater New York Nepali Chamber of Commerce has officially announced its upcoming inaugural General Assembly, a significant development for the Nepali business community in the Greater New York area. The announcement was made during a press briefing at Bajeko Sekuwa Restaurant in Sunnyside, New York.
Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee, Pradip Shrestha, revealed that the General Assembly is set to convene on March 24, 2024, at the Himalayan Yak restaurant in Jackson Heights, New York. Shrestha underscored the event’s importance for the Nepali business community in the Tri-state area, emphasizing the Chamber’s dedication to fostering collaboration and economic growth among its members.
Businesses interested in participating in the General Assembly must secure their membership by February 29, 2024. Amit Shah, a member of the Ad Hoc Committee, outlined the process for businesses in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut to become members of the Greater New York Nepali Chamber of Commerce by paying a specified fee.
Gobinda Lama, another member of the Ad Hoc Committee, provided insight into the vision and mission of the New York Nepali Chamber of Commerce during the press briefing. Lama emphasized the organization’s commitment to promoting entrepreneurship and economic development within the Nepali-speaking business community in the Greater New York area.
Addressing the electoral process, Election Commissioner Bashu Phulara, a famous Nepali American lawyer based in New York, assured the public of a fair election and tackled various legal issues during the press conference.
Membership eligibility for the New York Nepali Chamber of Commerce requires businesses to be registered in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut and actively engaged in operations. Owners must also belong to the Nepali-speaking community.
The Ad Hoc Committee, tasked with guiding the Chamber in its early stages, was unveiled during the press briefing. Chairman Pradip Shrestha leads the committee, with members including Tsepak D Gurung, Mampi Ghosh, Gobinda Lama, Anzan Shrestha, Manita D Gurung, Amit P Shah, Deepak Shrestha, Tsomo Dasel, Lelin Kandel, and Nevin Chhetri.
In addition to the Ad Hoc Committee, an Advisor Committee was introduced, comprising notable individuals from the Nepali business community such as Khagendra GC, Pasang Nuru Sherpa, Nabin Sherchan, Dr. Binod Shah, and Nabaraj KC. This comprehensive structure sets the stage for the Greater New York Nepali Chamber of Commerce to play a crucial role in uniting and advancing the interests of the Nepali business community in the region.
