Nepali Engineers in New York Host 18th Annual Conference, Advancing Innovation and Global Collaboration

The American Society of Nepalese Engineers (ASNEngr), Greater New York Metro Chapter (GNYMC), held its 18th Annual National Conference on August 9, 2025, in New York City. The event, with the theme “Advancing the Future through Equitable Engineering, Entrepreneurship, and Emerging Technology,” was held at the DoubleTree by Hilton New York LaGuardia Airport.

The conference drew approximately 200 participants, including engineers, IT professionals, scientists, professors, and students of Nepali origin from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Nepal. The full-day event focused on knowledge exchange, innovation, and networking.



The conference opened with the national anthems of Nepal and the United States. Local Chair and GNYMC President Narayan Baral, General Chair Ranjan Pokharel, ASNEngr President Mangal Maharjan, and Technical Chair Surya Lamsal delivered welcoming remarks. Maharjan provided an overview of ASNEngr’s achievements, and Lamsal detailed the technical program, which included sessions on disaster management, artificial intelligence, smart infrastructure, and renewable energy.

The Chief Guest, Hon. Dadhiram Bhandari, Consul General of Nepal in New York, spoke about the engineering diaspora’s contributions to Nepal’s infrastructure, technology, and sustainable development.

A fireside chat featured keynote speaker Er. Kulman Ghising, former Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority. Moderated by Raju Joshee, the discussion centered on Ghising’s vision for Nepal’s sustainable energy future, emphasizing innovation, the use of smart technologies, and international partnerships.

The event also featured speeches from guests including Subhash Tuladhar, Associate Commissioner of the New York City Department of Design and Construction, Dr. Hari Darlami, Er. Subodh Timilsina, and entrepreneur Rudra Pandey. Their speeches covered topics like engineering advancements, infrastructure development, entrepreneurship, and public service.

The Entrepreneurs and Innovators Panel was moderated by Tribal Naharki and Shubha Adhikari. The panel included Nabin Banskota, Dr. Madan Uprety, Dinesh Khatiwada, and Dr. Binod Tiwari. The discussion covered critical themes like the spark of entrepreneurship, global growth strategies, risk management, and innovation. Panelists shared personal experiences and offered advice to young engineers, encouraging them to be persistent, engage in continuous learning, and think with a visionary mindset.

The conference’s technical program included specialized sessions that provided practical insights into how technology can support sustainable development in Nepal. Topics ranged from using AI for infrastructure to innovative methods for disaster preparedness and renewable energy solutions.

The conference concluded with a networking dinner, cultural performances, and a DJ night. The event was organized by the GNYMC team and volunteers.

The 18th Annual National Conference highlighted ASNEngr’s role in connecting Nepali engineers, entrepreneurs, and innovators from around the world. The event aimed to strengthen ties between the diaspora and Nepal to support future collaborations in engineering, technology, and sustainable development.
