Twenty-four-year-old Nepali international student Ronav Subedi is fighting for his life in the Neuroscience Department of Dallas Methodist Medical Center following a devastating car accident on Interstate 30 (I-30) in Dallas, Texas. The accident occurred Wednesday night as Ronav was driving home alone, leaving him critically injured.
His family, friends, and community are now rallying to support him through a GoFundMe campaign to cover overwhelming medical expenses, as he remains in critical condition.
Ronav arrived in the United States in August 2022 to pursue his studies. He was driving on I-30 when his car lost control, leading to a catastrophic crash. A car carrying his friends, traveling behind him, also collided with his vehicle.

While the airbags in his friends’ car deployed, protecting them from serious harm, the airbags in Ronav’s car failed to activate, resulting in severe injuries. Despite undergoing surgery, he remains unconscious, facing a long and uncertain road to recovery.
According to a medical update from Methodist Dallas Medical Center dated May 15, 2025, Ronav was admitted to the Neuro Critical Care Unit following the accident. His diagnoses include severe and life-threatening injuries: a right frontal lobe contusion (brain bruising), multicompartmental hemorrhage including subdural and subarachnoid hemorrhages, basal ganglia hemorrhage, right occipital bone fractures, facial fractures, right anterior and maxillary fractures, right rib fractures, and right lung pneumothorax (collapsed lung).
The update, signed by Taylor Powers, MD, of Methodist Health System, notes that Ronav’s condition is critical, and he remains in a coma with an expected hospital stay of 60 days. Family sources confirm that Ronav sustained critical head trauma and multiple fractures across his body, with his condition described as stable but still extremely serious as of the latest reports.

Ronav’s journey in the U.S. has been marked by resilience and tragedy. Just three months after arriving in 2022, he suffered the profound loss of his mother, who passed away from cancer in November 2022 in Nepal. Now, as he fights for his life, his father, Bishwa Tara Subedi, is navigating the U.S. visa process to travel from Kathmandu, where he resides, to be by his son’s side.
The Subedi family, originally from Lamjung, Nepal, is grappling with both emotional and financial strain as they face this crisis. The medical document lists Ronav’s father, Bishwa Tara Subedi, and his brother, Pujan Subedi, as the only individuals allowed to visit him in the hospital, underscoring the family’s limited support network in the U.S.
As an international student, Ronav has limited access to public assistance programs, making the costs of hospitalization, ongoing treatment, and basic living expenses an immense burden. Medical bills are mounting, and his family anticipates a prolonged recovery requiring extensive care.
To alleviate this financial strain, a GoFundMe campaign, initiated by Pujan Subedi, aims to raise $90,000 to support Ronav’s treatment and related costs. As of now, the campaign has collected $18,536, reflecting the community’s outpouring of support but also the significant gap that remains.
The Nepali community in the U.S. and supporters worldwide are coming together to help Ronav and his family during this dire time. The GoFundMe campaign is a lifeline for covering hospital bills, rehabilitation, and other essential expenses. Those wishing to contribute can do so by visiting the GoFundMe page.
The Subedi family and their supporters are holding onto hope, praying for Ronav’s recovery while seeking the generosity of strangers and friends alike to help him through this critical juncture. If you would like to support Ronav Subedi’s recovery, please consider donating to the GoFundMe campaign.
