The U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu has issued a warning about the dangers of attempting to travel illegally to the United States border. In a statement released on social media on Wednesday, the embassy highlighted the severe risks such journeys pose to personal safety and life, urging individuals to reconsider taking such actions.
The embassy emphasized that illegal attempts to enter the U.S. expose migrants to exploitation by criminal groups, cartels, and human traffickers. “The journey to the U.S. border is dangerous,” the statement read.
“The dangerous journey to illegally cross into the United States puts your safety – even your life – at risk. Criminal groups, cartels, and human traffickers target illegal migrants, subjecting them to violence, extortion, and assault.”

The embassy further cautioned that many who embark on this perilous journey never reach their intended destination, leaving their families to face additional financial hardship and social stigma. “Many who attempt the journey never make it to their destination, bringing further economic hardship and disrepute on their families,” the statement noted.
In efforts to curb illegal migration, the United States is collaborating with countries across the Western Hemisphere to intercept and return individuals before they reach the U.S. border. The embassy underscored the United States’ commitment to strengthening its borders to protect American citizens and prevent the suffering caused by illegal immigration and human trafficking.
“The United States is working with other countries in the Western Hemisphere to stop and return people trying to enter illegally before they even reach the U.S. border,” the embassy stated. “By securing our borders, we protect American citizens and help prevent the suffering caused by illegal immigration and trafficking in persons.”
