Statistics released by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reveal that during the four years of the Biden administration, 132 Nepalis were arrested, and 130 were deported from the United States. Additionally, over 2,700 Nepalis were apprehended at the border by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and handed over to ICE. According to the report published by ICE, a total of 2,891 Nepalis were under ICE custody during this four-year period.
ICE reported that in fiscal year 2021, the first year of Biden’s term, 11 Nepalis were arrested, followed by 30 in 2022, 56 in 2023, and 35 in 2024. Among those arrested in 2024, 10 were convicted of various crimes, while in 2023, 11 of the arrested individuals were convicted.
Similarly, the number of Nepalis detained by CBP and other agencies while attempting to cross the border without proper documentation and subsequently transferred to ICE custody was 710 in fiscal year 2024, 835 in 2023, 962 in 2022, and 384 in 2021.

After their arrest, ICE deported 23 Nepalis in fiscal year 2021, 28 in 2022, 22 in 2023, and 57 in 2024, totaling 130 deportations.
Data from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) indicates that nearly 9,000 Nepalis entered the U.S. without visas during Biden’s presidency. However, not all were transferred to ICE custody; only around 2,800 Nepalis were handed over to ICE.
In comparison, during the four years of the previous Trump administration, a total of 1,850 Nepalis entered the U.S. without visas. Under Biden, the number of Nepalis entering without visas increased nearly fivefold. The fiscal year 2024, which began in October 2023 and ended in September 2024, saw the highest number of Nepali entries without visas, with 3,690 individuals recorded.
Following the start of fiscal year 2025, DHS reported that 440 Nepalis entered the U.S. without visas in October and 300 in November. In fiscal year 2023, 3,140 Nepalis entered without visas, while 1,490 did so in 2022 and 420 in 2021.
