Nepal Orthopedic Hospital in Jorpati has successfully performed 43 knee surgeries with the support of Operation Walk Chicago, a U.S.-based medical humanitarian organization that provides free hip and knee replacement surgeries.
The surgeries were conducted on 34 patients with long-term knee deterioration. Dr. Kailash Kumar Bhandari, the hospital’s medical director, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to accessible and affordable healthcare services.
Dr. Ravi Basyal, a visiting orthopedic surgeon from the United States, has collaborated with Nepal Orthopedic Hospital since 2009, resulting in nearly 600 knee surgeries. He praised the hospital’s doctors for their skill and experience in orthopedic care.
Founded in 1998 as a nonprofit institution, Nepal Orthopedic Hospital has served orphans, the underprivileged, and those with disabilities for over two decades. The hospital also organizes orthopedic and neurology surgery camps in remote areas at least four times a year.
Operation Walk Chicago is part of a global network providing free hip and knee replacements in developing countries. By partnering with local healthcare professionals, they aim to develop sustainable medical infrastructure for joint replacement care, ensuring long-term benefits for the communities they serve.
