Continuous heavy rainfall has led to severe floods and landslides across Nepal, resulting in the deaths of 66 individuals, as reported by the Nepal Police and the Nepal Armed Police Force Head Office.
As of 7:30 PM local time on Saturday, 69 people are still unaccounted for, while 60 others have sustained injuries.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Armed Police Kumar Neupane highlighted that the Kathmandu Valley has been particularly affected, with 34 fatalities reported: 11 in Kathmandu, 5 in Bhaktapur, and 18 in Lalitpur.
Other regions impacted include Panchthar (5 deaths), Dhankuta (2), Solukhumbu (2), Sunsari (1), Kavre (14), Dhading (1), Sindhupalchowk (4), and Dolakha (3).
Neupane noted that the missing individuals include 15 in Lalitpur, 26 in Kavre, 6 in Kathmandu, 7 in Makwanpur, 3 in Dolakha, 4 in Jhapa, 5 in Panchthar, and 5 in Sindhupalchowk.
As of Saturday evening, over 3,000 individuals have been rescued, and more than 200 homes have suffered damage. Rescue operations continue with the assistance of various security agencies and organizations.
More than 10,000 personnel from the Nepal Police have been deployed for the rescue efforts, supported by additional armed police forces.
