Nepal’s Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli Arrives in New York for UNGA and Bilateral Meetings

Prime Minister of Nepal, Mr. K P Sharma Oli, arrived in New York this evening, leading the Nepali delegation to participate in the Summit of the Future and the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). These events are taking place at the UN Headquarters in New York from September 21-22 and September 24-30, 2024, respectively.

Prime Minister Oli is accompanied by his spouse, Mrs. Radhika Shakya, as well as Chief Advisor Mr. Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Foreign Secretary Ms. Sewa Lamsal, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Upon arrival at John F. Kennedy International Airport, the Nepali delegation was welcomed by  Mr. Lok Bahadur Thapa, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations; Mr. Kumar Raj Kharel, Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Nepal to the United States; Mr. Chakra Kumar Subedi, Acting Consul General of Nepal in New York; and officials from the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations.

Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to address the Summit of the Future on September 22 and deliver a speech at the UN General Debate on September 26. During his visit, he will also hold bilateral meetings with foreign counterparts and other high-ranking dignitaries from various countries and organizations.

In addition to his participation in UN-related activities, Prime Minister Oli will address the World Leaders’ Forum at Columbia University on September 23 and the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum at Harvard University on September 27. He will also engage with the New York-based Nepali diaspora during a special interaction program on September 22.
