Nepali Man Shantlal Pradhan (47), Texas Robbery Survivor, Found Dead in Maryland

Shantlal Pradhan, a 47-year-old Nepali man who had been living in the United States since 2015, was found dead in his room in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, on Tuesday. The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed. There is no indication of foul play in his death.

Pradhan, an admired mathematics teacher from Bharatpur, Nepal, faced numerous challenges during his time in the USA. He was robbed at gunpoint in Texas a few years ago, an event that deeply affected him.

In 2019, he suffered from a neurological disease that left him bedridden for over six months. Despite these hardships, he continued to support his family, paying for their expenses, loans, and his children’s tuition fees. He was hopeful to get his travel documents soon and visit Nepal to meet his family and friends after nine years, but that day never came.

A GoFundMe campaign has been started to raise funds to send Pradhan’s body back to Nepal for traditional funeral rites. The campaign organizer shared, “I’m very saddened and heartbroken while I share the news of my dear friend Shantlal Pradhan who passed away last night after a sudden death in Upper Marlboro, MD.”

The organizer further mentioned, “Even the smallest contribution you make will assist in making this a reality and providing solace to his mourning family.”

Pradhan is survived by his wife, who has been waiting for his return for many years, a daughter still in school, and a son who is just beginning his career. The money collected will cover the costs of transporting the body and will also provide financial support to his grieving family during this difficult time.

Collected funds will be used to cover the repatriation expenses, including embalming costs, processing fees, and airfare. Remaining funds will be directly handed to the bereaved family in Nepal to support funeral expenses and other financial needs.

Everyone is invited to contribute to the GoFundMe to help fulfill Pradhan’s final wish of returning to his homeland.
