Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming Nepal Day Parade, which will be held on Sunday, May 19th in Manhattan, New York. The annual event, which began in 2016, is a vibrant celebration of Nepali culture and heritage.
“We’ve intensified our efforts to ensure a spectacular display of Nepali arts, culture, and costumes,” said Hemanth Malla, president of the organizer NRNA New York Chapter. “This year, we’re hopeful that New York City Mayor Eric Adams will once again join the festivities.”
Mayor Adams, along with other elected representatives including congresswoman and assemblymembers, participated in the parade last year, underscoring the growing visibility of the Nepali community in New York.
The parade route will begin at the intersection of 38th Street and Madison Avenue in Manhattan, culminating in a celebratory program at 24th Street.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of this year’s parade,” shared Nima Sherpa, a former coordinator of the event. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase the beauty and diversity of Nepali culture.”
The parade is supported by the Consulate General of Nepal in New York and NRNA USA. The organizers are also collaborating with other Nepali community organizations in the area to ensure a successful event.
“We encourage all Nepali people in New York and surrounding areas to join us for this special program that reflects the unique identity of Nepal and its people,” said Chameli Pariyar, publicity coordinator for the parade.
Temba Sherpa is serving as the convener for this year’s Nepal Day Parade.
