A Lexington, Kentucky couple, Rahar Maya Rai (31) and Chandra Bahadur Magar (34), were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the death of their 2-month-old baby in June 2023.
According to court documents, police found the infant deceased in their apartment on Centre Parkway. The child’s body showed deep bite marks on the face and extremities, along with internal bleeding in the head and torso. These injuries were at various stages of healing, indicating abuse happening over time.
The autopsy report revealed the couple did not seek medical attention for the child despite the visible injuries. The mother reportedly admitted to witnessing the abuse of another four-year-old child a week prior to the infant’s death.
Magar reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol daily with the infant present. Both parents have pleaded not guilty to the initial charges of second-degree child abuse. Both are currently held at the Fayette County Detention Center.
The judge set bond at $100,000 each and ordered the couple to have no contact with each other.
Further charges are expected, and their next court hearing is scheduled for March 12th. A separate hearing regarding foster care is set for May 2nd.
