Recently renowned Mithila artist Ajit Kumar Sah was awarded Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Awards 2022 for his outstanding performance in the field of art and culture.
The Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Awards (National and International) were established in memory of the First Law Minister of India and Founder of the Indian Constitution to recognize outstanding performers in various fields. The elite awards, year after year, would identify and honor professionals who have envisioned and created marvels to create a mark and strive to recognize and encourage outstanding people for their perfection and contribution towards society and nation, which inspires others to follow.
Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, popularly also known as Babasaheb, was an Indian jurist, politician, philosopher, anthropologist, historian, and economist. A revivalist for Buddhism in India, he inspired the Dalit Buddhist movement. As independent India’s first law minister, he oversaw the drafting of the Constitution of India.
Artist Ajit Sah has been selected for Nepal’s ‘Prabal Janasewa Shree Padak’ award. The “Prabal Janasewa Shree Padak” will be organized and distributed at Rashtrapati Bhawan, Shital Niwas. Sah, selected for the medal, has been active in Mithila painting for the past 37 years. The award was given by the President of Nepal, Bidhya Devi Bhandari. Nowadays, Ajit lives in New York City with his family. He is completely dedicated to his art and other creative work.
Ajit was born in the village, and his parents were farmers. He was always inspired by the spectacular and scenic natural beauty surrounding his village. Whenever he sees an art piece, he wishes to have the ability to create a similar art piece. He wanted to make his house as beautiful as the lush green fields surrounding his village were. He wanted to portray his friends playing in villages, ceremonies, and other social gatherings. He still reminisces about one of his childhood experiences when he saw an artist making an elephant in his artwork. He asked the artist’s reason for making the elephant in art. He never knew that the artist’s answer would make him realize the power of art.
Ajit has a unique philosophy for art. He believes that art is a way of expression. However, one needs a profound understanding and breadth of knowledge for artistic expression that inspires others. Therefore, they thoroughly study the subject matter prior to drawing art. His profound understanding of subject matters helps him depict the different aspects through intricate nuances in art pieces.
He could not complete his study because of his passion for art. However, he has no regrets. He has a patriotic heart with zealot blood. He is happy because art didn’t only help to promote Nepal worldwide but also spread happiness and inspiration among people.
