The Manassas Park Police Department has issued a new update regarding Nepali nurse Mamta Kafle, who disappeared on July 31st, triggering a widespread search effort.
On August 2, officers responded to Mamta Kafle’s residence for a welfare check and spoke with her husband, Naresh Bhatt. At that time, Mr. Bhatt provided additional information but did not want to report her missing. It wasn’t until August 5 that he officially reported Mamta’s disappearance to the authorities.
Initially, Mamta’s case did not meet the Virginia State Police criteria for a missing person. However, following standard procedures, she was later entered into the statewide missing persons registry. The Virginia State Police have distributed her information to all police agencies in Virginia and across the USA to aid in the search.
Between August 5 and 8, detectives conducted an extensive investigation and found that Mamta had minimal contact with her family, friends, and employer, and her social media activity had significantly decreased. Given these circumstances, detectives elevated her status to an Involuntary/Critical Missing Person and dedicated additional resources to the investigation.
“The husband, friends, and co-workers have all been cooperative throughout the investigation. Detectives will continue to follow up on all investigative leads to locate Mamta Kafle,” said The Manassas Park Police Department.
Mamta was last seen at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center on July 27, spoke to a friend on July 28, and was last seen by her husband on July 31. The police have released a missing person flyer with her details.
The Manassas Park Police Department is asking for the public’s help on locating Mamta Kafle. Department says “If anyone knows the whereabouts of Mamta Kafle or information pertaining to this case, please contact the Manassas Park Police Department at 703-361-1136. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to the Manassas City/Manassas Park Crime Solvers, 703-330-0330 or manassascrimesolvers.org.”
Detectives are actively investigating. The Department will provide updates as information becomes available.
Mamta Kafle is 28 years old, 5 feet tall, weighs 132 pounds, has black hair, and dark brown eyes. She works as a registered nurse in Virginia.
Her last social media post was on July 28. Her husband, Naresh Bhatt, has also appealed for help in finding her through social media. The Nepali community in the USA has expressed hope and wishes for her safe return.
A non-profit organization has announced a $5,000 reward for any confidential information that could help locate Mamta.
