Nepali Community Celebrates Culture, Unity at Harrisburg Parade

HARRISBURG, Pa. — More than 1,000 members of the Nepali community gathered in Pennsylvania’s capital city to celebrate Nepal Parade Day, showcasing culture, unity and diaspora pride.

Organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Pennsylvania Chapter, the event brought together Nepalis from across the state and neighboring areas, highlighting Nepal’s cultural diversity and the growing presence of the community in the United States.

The parade turned downtown Harrisburg into a vibrant display of Nepali heritage, with participants dressed in traditional attire, performing cultural dances and music, and waving Nepali and American flags. Families, youth, professionals and community leaders took part, making it one of the largest Nepali gatherings in the region.

The program began with the national anthems of Nepal and the United States, followed by remarks from organizers and community leaders. Speakers emphasized preserving Nepali culture and identity while contributing to American society.

Organizers said the event serves as a platform to unite the community and introduce Nepal’s cultural richness to a broader audience.

Colorful displays representing Nepal’s diverse ethnic groups were featured throughout the parade. Participants marched through the city carrying banners and flags, while traditional performances drew attention from local residents and visitors.

According to the NRNA Pennsylvania Chapter, strong turnout reflected the unity and growing influence of the Nepali community in Pennsylvania. The event also aimed to strengthen community ties and encourage younger generations to remain connected to their cultural roots.

Many attendees expressed pride in celebrating their heritage publicly. Families brought children to help them learn about Nepal’s history, traditions and values.

Local residents also gathered along the parade route, with many expressing interest in Nepali culture. Organizers said such interactions help promote cultural understanding and strengthen ties between communities.

In addition to the parade, attendees enjoyed Nepali food, cultural exhibits and networking opportunities. Community organizations and local businesses participated, contributing to the event’s success.

Organizers thanked volunteers, sponsors and participants, and said they plan to make Nepal Parade Day an annual tradition.
