On Tuesday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted a targeted operation on Canal Street in New York City, resulting in the arrest of nine undocumented immigrants. The operation focused on curbing criminal activity related to the sale of counterfeit goods.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, the individuals arrested had prior criminal records, including charges such as robbery, burglary, domestic violence, assaulting law enforcement, counterfeiting, drug trafficking, drug possession, and forgery. Additionally, four individuals were detained for allegedly assaulting law enforcement officers, and one person was arrested for obstruction.
The nine individuals arrested were identified by ICE as having various immigration violations and criminal histories. Mamadou Ndoye, from Mali, had a 2008 final order of removal and prior arrests for assault, counterfeiting, and drug offenses.
Muhammad Ndiaye, from Senegal, had overstayed a 1995 tourist visa and had arrests for domestic violence, robbery, and forgery. Aboubakar Diakite was also arrested and had a prior record for counterfeiting.
Other individuals arrested included Idy Sarr, from Senegal, who was under a 2010 removal order with prior drug and counterfeiting charges; Sergigne Diop, from Senegal, who had entered the U.S. in April 2024; Modou Mboup, from Senegal, who entered in September 2023 and had a prior assault charge in Mexico; Alioune Sy, from Senegal, who overstayed a tourist visa after entering in May 2023; Bokar Soko, from Mauritania, with three prior counterfeiting arrests and entry in May 2023; and Amadou Diallo, from Guinea, who had entered in November 2021.
