Bobby Singh, the man accused of shooting and killing 21-year-old Nepali student Muna Pandey in Houston, Texas, was presented in court today. The courtroom was filled with members of the Nepali community. During the Tuesday morning hearing, the judge denied bail for the 51-year-old Singh, who faces capital murder charges in the 262nd State District Court.

Prosecutors revealed that Singh was wearing bloodstained clothing at the time of his arrest, just days after Muna’s murder. Surveillance footage showed him leaving her apartment in the same clothes he was wearing when arrested. She had been shot three times in the body and once in the back of the head, execution-style.

Muna’s mother, Anita Pandey, who has had her U.S. travel visa approved, is preparing to come to Houston. She expressed her desire to see her daughter’s face one last time and demanded justice for her daughter’s murder.

Court documents indicate that Singh does not have U.S. citizenship. His attorney confirmed that he is a native of India, though his place of birth is not specified in the documents.

Singh faces the most serious form of murder charge in Texas, which carries a potential death penalty. The court documents state that Muna was shot and killed by Singh during a robbery using a deadly weapon. The judge denied bail after considering the State’s motion and the strong evidence presented.

Additionally, Singh faces charges of illegally carrying a weapon. He was set a bail of $25,000 for this charge and will be presented in court again on Thursday, September 5, for illegally carrying a weapon in a vehicle.

Singh was arrested at a northwest Houston traffic stop shortly after 8 pm last Wednesday, thanks to a coordinated effort by the Houston Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team, the Crime Reduction Unit, and the Texas Department of Public Safety. He is currently held in the Harris County Jail.

Houston police had released this image of the suspect captured on CCTV footage.

The arrest came just hours after police released a photo of the suspect taken from CCTV footage at 9:48 on Saturday, August 24.

Muna Pandey was found with a bullet wound in her apartment on Monday evening last week. Houston police arrived at the scene at 5:35 p.m. and found her dead. Patrol officers discovered her with multiple gunshot wounds, and paramedics declared her dead on the spot. Employees at the apartment complex had received an anonymous call about a body inside the apartment before calling 911.
