President Donald Trump has signed an executive order establishing the White House Task Force on the FIFA World Cup 2026, marking a significant step in coordinating federal efforts for what is set to be the largest sporting event in history. The tournament, which the United States is co-hosting with Canada and Mexico, will bring millions of fans and players from around the world to cities across the U.S.
In his executive order, President Trump highlighted the tournament’s importance, noting that it will take place during “the momentous occasion of the 250th anniversary of our country” and presents a unique opportunity to “showcase the Nation’s pride and hospitality while promoting economic growth and tourism through sport.”
The White House Task Force on the FIFA World Cup 2026 will be chaired by President Trump, with the Vice President serving as Vice Chair. The order also establishes an Executive Director, who will oversee the day-to-day operations and report to the President through the Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Implementation.
The task force will include key members of the administration, including the Secretaries of State, Treasury, Defense, Commerce, Transportation, and Homeland Security, as well as the Attorney General, FBI Director, and multiple White House advisors. These agencies will be required to submit reports on their planning and activities to the Executive Director no later than June 1, 2025.
With games set to take place in 16 cities across the U.S., the tournament is expected to have a significant economic impact, generating billions of dollars in revenue through tourism, business investments, and infrastructure improvements. Given the scale of the event, the administration is prioritizing security, with the order stating that “agencies shall provide information and assistance useful and necessary to the Task Force” to ensure a coordinated government response.
To facilitate operations, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will house the task force, providing funding and administrative support. This underscores the administration’s focus on ensuring a safe and efficient tournament.
The executive order stipulates that the White House Task Force will be dissolved on December 31, 2026, unless extended by the President. Until then, it will play a crucial role in ensuring a successful FIFA World Cup 2026, reinforcing the U.S.’s position as a premier host for global sporting events.
