U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has urged the United Nations to take decisive action to end the Russia-Ukraine war, which will mark its third anniversary on February 24. In a statement released on Friday, Rubio emphasized President Donald Trump’s commitment to securing a resolution that ensures lasting peace rather than a temporary ceasefire.

“The war has dragged on for far too long, at far too great a cost to both Ukraine and Russia,” Rubio said, calling for international support for a U.S.-backed resolution at the UN.

The proposed resolution aligns with President Trump’s position that the UN must refocus on its founding mission of maintaining international peace and security. “If the United Nations is truly committed to its original purpose, we must acknowledge that while challenges may arise, the goal of lasting peace remains achievable,” Rubio stated.

The U.S. is urging all UN member states to support the resolution, emphasizing the need for a renewed commitment to ending the conflict. “This is our opportunity to build real momentum toward peace,” Rubio said.

The call for action comes as diplomatic efforts to resolve the war continue, with ongoing debates over international aid, military support, and the broader geopolitical implications of the conflict.
