The National Weather Service (NWS) New York has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the entire Tri-State area from 7 PM Saturday to 10 AM Sunday, warning of significant snowfall and hazardous travel conditions.

A fast-moving storm system is expected to bring accumulating snowfall across the region, with snowfall rates potentially reaching 1 inch per hour. Forecasts indicate a higher likelihood of 6 inches or more of snow in the Lower Hudson Valley and southern Connecticut, where temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s, according to NWS New York.

For New York City, northeastern New Jersey, and Long Island, the forecast includes the possibility of accumulating snow transitioning into sleet and rain, reducing the likelihood of 6 inches of snow to less than 10%. However, a glaze of ice is possible, making travel conditions hazardous. Temperatures in these areas will range from the lower to mid-30s.

The storm is expected to create challenging travel conditions across the region. In the Lower Hudson Valley and southern Connecticut, snow-covered roads and difficult travel are likely, with the potential for 6 inches or more of snowfall. Meanwhile, New York City, northeastern New Jersey, and Long Island could see a mix of snow, sleet, and slush-covered roads, making travel hazardous. Snowfall rates of up to 1 inch per hour may occur in some areas, further complicating road conditions.

The latest weather models indicate that the storm system has shifted slightly farther south, increasing the chances of significant snowfall reaching coastal areas, while reducing the duration of mixed precipitation.

Additionally, the NWS warns of a potential second wintry event from Tuesday into Wednesday, which could bring another round of accumulating snow or a wintry mix.

Residents are urged to stay updated on forecasts, prepare for winter conditions, and exercise caution while traveling this weekend.
