Voters will be selecting their next president, vice president, U.S. senators, representatives, and other key local officials. To participate, it is essential to meet the following registration deadlines.
2024 General Election Voter Registration Deadlines:
- Online Registration: You can register online until Saturday, October 26, 2024. The New York State Board of Elections website offers an easy and secure process. Be sure to check and update your information in advance to avoid last-minute issues. Register now!
- By Mail: If you prefer mailing your registration, the completed form must be received by the Board of Elections by October 26, 2024. Forms are available online. Then, mail the form to your local county board of elections.
- In-Person Registration: For those wishing to register in person, you must visit your local Board of Elections office by Saturday, October 26, 2024. Offices across the state will be open to assist with any last-minute registrations. In New York State, you can register in-person at your county board of elections,at any New York State Agency-Based voter registration center or at the Department of Motor Vehicles, either in person or on their web site if you already have DMV-issued identification
Who Is Eligible to Register in New York?
To register to vote in New York, you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be a resident of New York for at least 30 days before the election
- Be 18 years old by Election Day
- Not be serving a sentence for a felony conviction
- Not have been found mentally incompetent by a court
