A Nepali man, Deepak Oli (30), was tragically killed during a robbery at a gas station in Texas on Sunday morning. The incident has left his wife and 5-year-old daughter in Nepal devastated.
Oli, originally from Banphikot in West Rukum, Nepal, immigrated to the United States without a visa last year through Mexico, after paying a significant sum to agents. His American dream was cut short by the fatal shooting.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Oli’s funeral and to provide assistance for his family back in Nepal. The community is urged to contribute to the fundraiser as a tribute to the deceased and to offer condolences to his grieving family.
Oli was killed early Sunday morning during a robbery at the Gator Stop #3 gas station, located at the intersection of I-35 and Ross Road North, just north of Elm Mott.
The McLennan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deadly incident, which occurred around 5 a.m. local time on Sunday. Oli was employed as a cashier at the gas station, where he was shot by the robbers during the robbery, leading to his death.
Officials have informed Oli’s family about the tragic incident and are actively investigating the scene. The McLennan County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information to come forward.
Notably, there have been several incidents of Nepalis being killed or injured in robberies at gas stations in the USA, mostly occurring during nighttime hours.
Last year, Bhesraj Lamichhane, a Nepali store owner in Colorado, was shot and killed by a gunman while working at a convenience store in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
Similarly, Dipendra Joshi, a young Nepali living in Euless, Texas, was shot and injured while returning from his job at a gas station.
Additionally, 32-year-old Bhim Bahadur Nath was seriously injured in Austin, Texas, last year when armed robbers opened fire on him while he was working at a gas station.
