USCIS Announces New Filing Locations for Certain Green Card Applications

Starting April 1, 2024, there will be a change in how to submit certain immigration applications. This applies to individuals applying for permanent residence based on employment (I-485) and related forms.

What’s changing?

  • You will no longer send these applications to USCIS service centers.
  • Instead, you will mail them to a USCIS lockbox.
  • This change is designed to improve efficiency and processing times.

What forms are affected?

  • This applies to applications where you are concurrently filing:
    • Form I-907 (Request for Premium Processing Service)
    • Form I-140 (Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker)
    • Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status)
  • It also applies to related forms submitted with the package, including:
    • Form I-131 (Application for Travel Document)
    • Form I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization)
    • Form I-824 (Application for Action on an Approved Application or Petition)

  • After May 2, 2024, applications sent to USCIS service centers for these categories may be rejected.
  • Be sure to use the correct filing address based on the beneficiary’s future work location.

How to file your application:

  • USCIS recommends filing online whenever possible.
  • If filing by mail, use the designated lockbox address based on the beneficiary’s work location (details on USCIS website).
