The Internal Revenue Service on Thursday launched a new online tool aimed at helping individuals and businesses better understand and resolve tax debt.
The Tax Debt Help tool, available at IRS.gov, is designed to guide users through payment and resolution options using a series of interactive questions. The resource is part of the agency’s broader effort to expand digital services and make it easier for taxpayers to meet their obligations.
“This new Tax Debt Help tool reflects the agency’s commitment to making tax compliance clearer, more accessible, and less intimidating for taxpayers,” said IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano. “By guiding taxpayers through their options with simple, interactive questions, we’re helping them understand the paths available and take confident next steps.”
The tool helps users identify potential payment plans, temporary delays of collection, or offers in compromise for those who qualify. By organizing these solutions in a clear and structured format, the IRS aims to assist taxpayers in making informed decisions about settling their tax obligations.
Accessible at any time, the online tool does not require users to input personally identifiable information such as Social Security numbers, names, or addresses. The IRS said this privacy-focused design allows taxpayers to explore available options without risk to sensitive data.
The agency said expanding self-service options will help taxpayers resolve issues faster and reduce the need for phone calls or in-person visits.
